THE AUTUMN SEASON AT THE VERA FLETCHER HALL
The Vera Fletcher Hall is gearing up for an exciting Autumn Season. On Saturday 27 September we will be welcoming a professional production of R C Sherriff’s psychological thriller, Home At Seven.The play, supported by the R C Sherriff Trust, will run for three weeks at the Tabard Theatre in Chiswick (2 – 20 September) before transferring to the Vera Fletcher Hall and short tour of local venues including the Riverhouse Barn in Walton and The Micharl Frayn Theatre in Kingston. Full details on the websites. The production of Home At Seven is part of the Sherriff50 commemoration of 50 years since the death of Elmbridge’s literary titan. Back in February and March, the VFH presented a mini film festival of four films for which Sherriff provided the screen play and is delighted to be hosting this production of Home At Seven.
Home at Seven takes place five years after the end on the Second World War. The country is still recovering from years of bomb damage. Its people continue to endure rationing and are trying to restore normality after six years when everything had been turned on its head. David Preston, an ordinary decent citizen, is caught in a waking nightmare when he returns home from work to his wife to find that 24 hours have elapsed without him even realising it. It is now a day later than he thought. As hard as he tries, he cannot recall the events of the missing day or explain away evidence that implicates him in theft and murder.
On Friday 17th October our Film Night will be screening Polite Society, a 2023 British martial arts action comedy film written and directed by Nida Manzoor
On Saturday 1 November we are delighted to welcome back folk musician and singer/songwriter Elsa McTaggart with her new concert Great Women of Folk, a feast of folksong both traditional and contemporary and a tribute to some of the greatest female folk singers of our time. Elsa will be delving into the lives and songs of great folk artists such as Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Mary Black, Sandy Denny, Emmilou Harris and many more.
On Saturday 15 November also returning is actor and writer Claire Louise Amias with her new play, Haunted Shadows: The Gothic Tales of Edith Nesbit. Following the success of The Masks of Aphra Behn, Claire returns with this gripping insight into the darker side of Edith Nesbit, author of The Railway Children. Renowned horror expert Jonathan Rigby directs this chilling one-woman show.
For our Christmas Film Night on Friday 5 December, we will be continuing the theme of ghosts with a screening of The Amazing Mr Blunden, a family mystery film directed by the late, great Lionel Jeffries.
